Varzina, Trout Lodge, August 18-23, 2025
Summer is already waning, and autumn will soon be knocking on the doors of our camp on upper Varzina. The weather is still warm, though with good, heavy rains that have maintained an acceptable water level in the river, unlike in previous years. The river temperature gradually dropped from 17°C to 13°C by the end of the week. This undoubtedly affected the quality of the fishing and the fish activity. Only now did the dorsal fins of the coveted fish begin to appear on the surface, and it became clear that they were in the river! But the fishing was very, very difficult. No doubt all kinds of flies were used, but the coveted fly that everyone would have liked was never found. It was quite clear that the fish were inactive and not feeding. With nine fishing rods and four days (one day was lost due to bad weather, and the other day the whole group spent at sea, where we had a good catch of sea trout, which we don't include in the statistics), we caught 54 trout, the largest of which was 67 cm, and seven salmon, two of which were over 90 cm. Yes, it must be said that we haven't had a breakthrough yet and the fish are still not easy, but the sea fishing was excellent, both in terms of the weather, the company, and the fish themselves. Our friends and guests are getting ready to leave, and we are waiting for the next group and wishing them "No tail, no scales!"
